As a person of faith and moral responsibility, I feel compelled to speak out against the horrific violence and unfolding humanitarian disaster currently gripping Gaza. The actions of the Israeli military have led to the indiscriminate killing of civilians—men, women, children, and entire families. The scale and intensity of these attacks suggest an alarming objective: to erase Gaza from the map. This must not be allowed to continue.
There is no justification—military, political, or otherwise—for the mass killing of innocent civilians. Over the past several months, the Israeli government has enforced a near-total blockade on Gaza, preventing the delivery of life-saving essentials: food, clean water, medical supplies, fuel, and cooking gas. These are not luxuries—they are basic necessities without which no human being can survive.
This blockade has created a man-made famine. According to Oxfam, 90% of Gaza’s population has now been displaced. Most are living in makeshift shelters or overcrowded camps, with little or no access to basic services. Food supplies have all but run out, and one in every five people now faces acute hunger. Half of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are children. These children are not combatants. They are not political pawns. They are innocents, and they are dying.
Oxfam has warned that, without immediate intervention, all remaining food stocks in Gaza could be exhausted by September. If the world does not act now, we risk witnessing the deliberate starvation of an entire population. This is not merely a humanitarian crisis—it is a moral catastrophe.
As a member of the global community, I stand alongside Oxfam and other humanitarian organisations in calling for immediate action:
- Unimpeded and secure access to humanitarian aid must be granted immediately. Aid convoys carrying food, water, and medical supplies must be allowed into Gaza without delay.
- A permanent and verifiable ceasefire must be negotiated and implemented. Only a lasting cessation of hostilities will allow aid to be delivered safely and lives to be saved.
- All remaining hostages must be released safely and unconditionally. The lives of civilians must never be used as bargaining chips in any conflict.
Let us be absolutely clear: no side in this conflict is without blame. The history between Israel and Palestine is complex, painful, and longstanding. But what we are witnessing now goes beyond politics or past grievances. It is a humanitarian emergency of the gravest kind. It is the people of Gaza—children, families, the elderly—who are paying the ultimate price. Their suffering is intolerable. Their deaths are preventable.
Peace is not optional. It is essential. Every human being, regardless of nationality, faith, or political identity, has an inherent right to live in safety, to be free from fear and oppression. The people of Gaza and the people of Israel alike deserve a future built on justice, security, and mutual respect.
We cannot allow silence or apathy to become complicity. We must raise our voices in solidarity with the suffering. We must call upon our leaders, our institutions, and our fellow citizens to act—not in a distant future, but now.
Too many have already perished. Let us not allow millions more to follow.
